Gum disease can cause the gums to pull back (recede) which can loosen teeth. Gum graft surgery is a procedure your dentist or periodontist performs to correct gum recession.

In graft surgery, healthy gum tissue is taken from the roof of the mouth and implanted.

– Healing from a gum graft is between one and two weeks.

– You may experience teeth sensitivity, especially with hot and cold foods.

– Your gums will be firmer and tighter around the teeth, providing greater stability.

A person will probably have a follow-up appointment with their dentist after surgery to check the healing process is progressing as it should. The dentist may also remove any stitches if necessary.”
