Toothpaste Will Not Help Prevent Dental Erosion

Contrary to popular belief, the use of toothpaste and the occasional trip to a dentist are not enough to protect teeth against the damage caused by erosion. What methods did a recent study employ in order to come to this interesting conclusion?

– Eight normal toothpastes and one control toothpaste was used.

– Human teeth (premolars) were employed to simulate realistic effects.

– These teeth were brushed once a day end exposed to acidic substances over a period of time.

“The research simulated the effect of brushing once a day with exposure to an acid solution for five consecutive days on tooth enamel.”
