Vera works as a receptionist with an experienced team at Louise Lunness-Barnes’ dental practice in Strood. She had been struggling with periodontitis, a form of gum disease, which had led to increasing looseness of her remaining teeth, particularly in the upper jaw. Unfortunately, this resulted in the eventual loss of all her upper teeth and the provision of a full upper denture. This naturally had a bad effect on Vera’s self confidence as well as her ability to enjoy meals, particularly in a social situation.
It was immediately apparent that Vera would be an ideal candidate for the ‘Teeth in a Day’ procedure. This is one of the most exciting recent developments in dental implant treatment utilising the latest technology. With minimal surgery the ‘Teeth in a Day’ procedure allowed us to place 4 dental implants and attach a full upper set of fixed replacement provisional teeth at a single appointment. This avoids the need for the usual series of appointments spread over several months. Vera was able to make the transition from a traditional removable denture to a fixed implant supported restoration in one day. The initial provisional restoration is a first temporary fixed set of teeth and is worn for about 12 weeks to allow the gum shape to fully settle and the implants to integrate with the underlying bone. Patients are advised to eat gently during this phase of treatment. After 3 months, the temporary restoration is replaced with a high quality and comfortable definitive final restoration. This is easily achieved with some simple appointments for impressions and without the need for any further implant surgery.
Vera found that the experience of implant surgery was pain-free. She has really benefited and feels that the results of the ‘Teeth in a Day’ are amazing – it feels like having her own teeth back again. For her the treatment has been a life-changing experience and she can now smile again with confidence.
How do I feel about my teeth now? I don’t think words can describe, it’s a total transformation. Confident, smiling much much more. I can eat anything, perhaps than can be a bit of a downside!
