Anthony was referred by Lenham Dental Surgery, Maidstone to discuss fixed options to replace his missing upper left molar. Unfortunately this heavily restored tooth fractured, was diagnosed as unrestorable and extracted one year previously. Anthony presented with a minimally restored healthy dentition and this was his only missing tooth noted. With healthy neighbouring teeth an implant retained crown was the most conservative long term option for this patient.
Providing Anthony with an implant retained crown would restore him to full dentition. This would allow improved chewing on the left hand side together with preventing movement of the adjacent and opposing teeth. The challenge in this case was the loss of bone in the area together with significant sinus expansion but I was confident that with sinus augmentation I could place an implant fixture and replace his missing tooth. The necessary pre operative records were taken and the surgical procedure was planned for a few weeks later. On the day of surgery an implant fixture together with a sinus augmentation was carried out all under local anaesthetic without discomfort.
What often sounds like a complex and long procedure to patients can be surprisingly straightforward for them on the day of treatment. Anthony returned some weeks later for the second surgical stage and treatment was subsequently completed by his general dentist. Anthony was pleased with the overall process and surgical treatment he received on his journey to replace his missing tooth.
Implants… it’s more relaxed, it’s less painful, it’s less stressful. The service they provide is incredible.
